Beta is best

You might have seen a post a two saying that Sondz, i.e. the best website in the world (objectively) was launching its beta version this week. If you haven’t, that’s OK, I absolve you (and I’m not even Catholic). If you have, thanks a bunch for noticing. And now there’s more.

We launched Sondz on November 17th 2020. You might remember, there was little else to do then than launch online projects: in Paris, these were the innocent times of lockdown #2. In our specific case, this was also the era where we stayed in my flat after leaving my wife’s (she’d sold it) and before moving into the new one (we hadn’t bought it yet). Which meant that we were surrounded by cardboard boxes in a place smaller than the previous one — with my wife being 6-month pregnant. Good times.

In any event, we did manage to launch Sondz (because I was not alone in this), and then spent the months after that debugging and adding a bunch of new features. We added new information, we improved the search, we added more images, we added a Youtube play button for all tracks… It was still the same basic principle though: what you would find on Sondz was a bunch of information, media and links between musicians, albums, songs and labels. We always planned for more and, this week, we actually started delivering on that…

That’s right: on November 17th 2021, for Sondz’s first anniversary, we launched its beta version. The reason we call it a different name is because, in our minds, the update(s) that we introduced is pretty significant. From now on, you and everyone else in your family with a phone (that includes 3-year olds at this point) can rate, review and add trivia to every single content page on the site. In short, Sondz is now interactive: all you have to do is log in using Facebook or Google and you can say your piece on any musician, album, song or label you feel like.

This is far from the end of our roadmap: we have a bunch of other ideas in store. But this is a big one, and we hope you’ll enjoy it as much as we do. I actually should be careful: we haven’t displayed contributor info on the platform yet. Once we do, you’ll find out how many reviews or trivia I posted…
